Hey everyone,

I recently did a experiment with TMR, maybe some have tried this already. With other therapies such as Reiki, Body Talk and Emotion Code we can do treatments distantly or in our minds. Why should TMR be a exception. So I went through the fab 5 testing and rating, just like I would if I was actually doing them, however, this time I visualized myself in front of me doing the exercises. I did 4-5 sets and then physically check pain issue, balance of left verses right and rom. There were dramatic shifts in everything. When I was visualizing the sit to stand the muscles in my bad side were twitching the whole time. Crazy. Tom can now market TMR for couch taters.
Has anyone played with this before. I am going to try this at work and see if I can duplicate the results with others.

Scott Strickland (one of the original TMR instructors) has been doing that for at least a couple of years. Someone said-- I believe it was Tom-- that he does it with all pts before actually starting treatment with motion.... The power of visualization. What a concept: if it brings home gold in the Olympics it may even work for the rest of us.

Maybe we can pry some of Scott's goods out of him... I asked him for some insights in the past but only drew blanks. Perhaps he holds onto those techniques closely for a future Nobel prize.

Obama won a Nobel Prize so there is hope for Scott. I am good at visualization so it was easy for me. All I did was see myself doing the exercises. That simple, no bells or whistles. Would be interesting to find out what Scott does. Not everyone can visualize very well.

It has been taught on the second day of TMR 1 to attempt this to decrease "apparent DOMS" from the day before. Usually works. I've only used it this way on a couple of people...interesting how the "mind-body" has such a connection...

Ugh...did I really say "mind-body"???

I use visualization of the arm raise with most of my post-op major rotator cuff repairs, you know the ones who can only receive PROM to certain degrees of flex, scaption, etc. for 4 - 6 weeks. I ask the pt. to raise the good side and then see how far their brain would allow the bad side to go up if they could move it. After 2 to 4 sets of working the good side, the brain sees the bad arm go higher...and the pt. often reports less pain in the bad shoulder!
